HARBOR HEALTHCARE UNVEILS NEW REHAB UNIT

LEWES, DE – Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center located At 301 Ocean View Boulevard in Lewes recently completed a $600,000 renovation and expansion project, unveiled at ceremony this Wednesday. The Harbor Rehab Open House featured a champagne toast by Administrator Donald Boger and a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Jim Ford, Administrator Donald Boger, Lewes Chamber Board Member Orville Mills and City Councilman Ted Becker. “This project was important to the patients and staff of Harbor Healthcare but also to Lewes and surrounding coastal communities,” said Administrator Don Boger in his champagne toast during the ceremony. The new unit offers 30 beds for short-term rehab patients with an average length of stay of 25 days.
About Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center
Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center is a non-profit facility owned by Delaware Health Corp. and managed by Cadia Rehabilitation (among Delaware’s largest providers of in-patient rehabilitation and skilled nursing services). The 50,000 square foot, 179-bed facility is located in Lewes DE, just off Savannah Road tucked within Pilot Town community.
The facility currently has three wings: Henlopen, Sussex and Lewes, provides 179 beds total with a mix of shared and private rooms, has two Rehabilitation Gyms, two patios, outdoor courtyard with gazebo, two patient lounges, on-site beauty shop and more. The facility offers short-term/rehabilitation care including physical, speech and occupational therapies and long-term care/skilled nursing.
Since opening its doors in the community, Harbor Healthcare has provided more than 3.4 Million Patient Care Hours. The facility currently has 168 residents and employs more than 200 staff members.

- Expansion of the Rehabilitation Gym to nearly 1,900 Sq.Ft., doubling the size of the previous gym and making the new gym largest of its kind in Sussex County
- Rehabilitation gym including fully functional kitchen, bathroom, washer/dryer and more – use of such equipment facilitates rehabilitation and creates a true home-like therapy experience.
- Addition of a 2nd Auxiliary Rehab gym for individual and group therapies
- Expanded Rehabilitation Services, Programs and Therapies including Wii-Habilitation, state-of-the-art Lite Gate Harness and Mobility System, light therapy systems and more.
- Addition of 21 upgraded rooms with new furniture, warm décor, flat screen TVs and private telephones; 12 Private Patient Rooms with 32” flat screen TVs and 9 Semi-Private Rooms with bedside flat screen TVs with adjustable arms.
- Revitalized lobby and common areas with new carpet, wall vinyl, furniture, window treatments, artwork, accents and more.
- New dining area and day room/lounge area with a 60” flat screen high-definition TV, comfortable lounge seating and sofas, warm accents/finishes, new furniture and décor, and large windows to allow for extra sunlight. The Rehab Unit Dayroom serves as the “heart” of the unit where patients socialize between therapy appointments and meet with family members.
